Terms of Use

1. About Adopterra

Adopterra (adopterra.com) is a farm adoption marketplace. It connects consumers with farms where they can adopt a living asset — a beehive, a tree, a vineyard — for a season and receive the harvest.

These Terms of Use govern your use of the Adopterra platform and any farm pages hosted on it. By using the site, you agree to these terms.

The platform is operated by:

Adopterra

2. The adoption model

An "adoption" is a seasonal arrangement. You pay to reserve a share of a living asset (e.g. a beehive) at a participating farm for one defined season. In return:

  • You receive a certificate of adoption
  • You receive updates from the farmer throughout the season
  • You receive the yield (e.g. honey) at harvest, in the quantity corresponding to your tier

An adoption is not a purchase of goods in advance. It is a participation in a natural, seasonal process. Yields are estimated and may vary due to weather, disease, or other natural factors outside the farmer's reasonable control.

3. Waitlist registration

Before Season 2026 opens, you may register your interest via the waitlist form. Waitlist registration:

  • Is free and non-binding
  • Does not guarantee a spot or a specific price
  • Means you will be contacted when adoption slots open

You may withdraw from the waitlist at any time by emailing hello@adopterra.com.

4. Purchases and payments

When adoption slots open:

  • Payment is processed securely via Stripe
  • Prices are in euros (€) and include applicable taxes
  • Exact pricing will be confirmed and published before slots open

4.1 Cancellations and refunds

Because adoption involves a real farm preparing a living asset for your season:

  • Cancellations requested more than 14 days before the season opens are eligible for a full refund
  • Cancellations within 14 days of season opening are not eligible for a refund, as the farm will have made irreversible preparations
  • If the harvest fails due to causes outside the farmer's reasonable control (disease, extreme weather, natural disaster), we will offer a partial credit or refund at our discretion

To request a cancellation or refund, email hello@adopterra.com.

4.2 EU Consumer rights

As an EU consumer, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal from distance contracts under the Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU). However, this right does not apply to contracts for perishable goods or goods that deteriorate rapidly. Because hive adoption involves living animals and a natural seasonal process that begins immediately upon confirmation, the right of withdrawal may be limited. We will assess each case individually and err on the side of consumer protection.

5. Yield estimates

Yield quantities stated on the site (e.g. "~1 kg honey") are estimates based on historical averages. Actual yield depends on natural factors. You accept this inherent variability when adopting.

If your actual yield is materially lower than the estimated range for reasons within the farmer's control, you may be entitled to a partial refund. Contact us at hello@adopterra.com.

6. Delivery

Harvest products are shipped to the delivery address you provide. Shipping within the EU is included in the adoption price unless otherwise stated. Customs duties and taxes for deliveries outside the EU are the recipient's responsibility.

Estimated delivery is autumn 2026. We will communicate any delays promptly.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Submit false or misleading information in any form
  • Attempt to circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features of the site
  • Use the site for any unlawful purpose
  • Resell adoption certificates without our written consent

8. Intellectual property

All content on this site — including copy, design, and code — is the property of Adopterra or the respective farm. You may not reproduce or redistribute it without written permission.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by EU law, Adopterra is not liable for:

  • Harvest failures caused by events outside the farmer's reasonable control
  • Indirect or consequential losses
  • Losses exceeding the amount you paid for your adoption

Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as an EU consumer.

10. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Latvia. Disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Latvia, without prejudice to your right as an EU consumer to bring proceedings in your country of residence.

We encourage you to contact us first at hello@adopterra.com — we will do our best to resolve any issue directly.

Online dispute resolution: The European Commission provides an online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the platform grows. We will post the updated version here and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
